Harry Potter/RENT

Alright, so lately, since I've been a rampant (I believe that's my new favourite word) Harry Potter-nerd all my life, I've decided it's time to get into the deeper part of the series.  I've been checking out some forums and random discussions, and it's the Houses that interest me.  The barriers and similarities between them. 

I identify as  Ravenclaw, but that's a tough one for me, because I also see Gryffindor, Slytherin and Hufflepuff in my personality.  Also, if I am a Ravenclaw, I am most definately a Luna type of Ravenclaw, but she is supposed to be more of a blend and a unity of all the houses, so really, who's to say?  I also believe, at times, I can be quite a Hufflepuff.  This is where the whole sorting thing bugs me in the series.  There are so many characters that seem to blur the line between houses. (Hermione-Ravenclaw, Percy-Slytherin/Ravenclaw, Neville-Hufflepuff, Luna-EVERYTHING)  Even Harry himself was being flip-flopped between Slytherin and Gryffindor, so why do we need these boundaries between the houses?  Why can't we all just be one?
This is where I'm going to compare it to the RENT characters.  Each of those characters was supposed to represent one small part of Jonathan Larson, so why does each fan of both RENT and Harry Potter feel like they have to identify with only one character/house?  If Harry Potter were applied to Jonathan Larson, he'd be a mix of ALL the houses, seeing as his characters all are a part of him.  Look.

Mark-Hufflepuff (perhaps with a bit of Gryffindor, but he does have that need to be friends with everyone, and merely to help them, but lacks the bravery to fight back, even in the middle of a riot)

Roger-Gryffindor (perhaps with a bit of Slytherin.  He's focussed on self-preservation, but damn does he fight hard and bravely for others)

Mimi-Slytherin (self-preservation, cool-headedness, large and spontaneaus actions with some forthought)

Collins- Gryffindor/Ravenclaw (a spontaneaous anarchist that does things without thinking for what he deems right, and just does not care, but is also a teacher who knows what he's talking about, and therefore makes his fights just, at least by his logical standards)


Angel-Hufflepuff/Gryffindor (loves everyone, is so loyal, focusses on love on Earth, but is DAMN brave to be who she is without caring what the world thinks)

Maureen- Slytherin (very focussed on her own needs and wants, again, bold actions with forthought, but with some Hufflepuff, because she loves (lusts?) everbody)

Joanne-Ravenclaw (cool-headed, knows what she's talking about, straight-forward)

Benny-Slytherin (I don't think he's evil, I don't think Slytherins are evil, but he's merely very quick to betray his friends for his own needs and wants, but he's also slightly Ravenclaw and Gryffindor, for although he's doing what he's doing mostly for himself, he wants to help his friends.  He's also focussed and intelligent.)

It's even difficult to restrain each CHARACTER to a house, and they are each merely a componant of one person. So, be who you are, choose a house if you want, but don't boycott other houses.  Hogwarts is a place to unify the young magic world, and if we restrict ourselves to houses, then it can get rediculous.

I love Slytherins, I do not think they are evil.  Some of my best friends are Slytherins, so don't bash them.  J.K. never says they are evil, it's mostly the movie that portrays the black and white, Gryffindor/Slytherin, good vs. evil thing, and we all know how much the movies suck donkey crud.

And with one last plea/thought in this VERY long blog, don't define the houses with one word.  Brave, Smart, Evil, and Losers.  This is what most people think.  This is stupid, read the books again if you must, but these are not the definitions of each house.  Think about each person.  Robert Pattinson aside, is Cedric really a loser?  No.  (only the actor is...).  And HE'S in Hufflepuff.  So there, read the books again, you'll be surprised to see the LONG definitions of each house.
